Should I use a modpack or install mods individually?

This guide is meant to help you decide between using a modpack or modding S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly on your own.

The pros and cons of both options:

Making your own list of mods:

Pros

-Can be managed and edited easily.

-Can be shaped in your vision.

-Community can help you easily if you have problems.

Cons

-Slower to set up if you want a lot of mods.

-Can be hard to manage if you don't know what you are doing.

Installing a modpack:

Pros

-Most of the time it's faster and easier for people who know nothing about modding or don't have the time for it.

-Load order is solved for you so there's a high chance of not having any problems while playing (Note that this applies only for the modpacks linked below and is not 100% guaranteed to be true, problems can still appear).

Cons

-Huge download size

-If you encounter a bug or a crash you have to wait for the modpack author to fix it as only he knows about all of the edits that were made to make all mods compatible.

-It can be hard or near impossible to add mods on your own into it.

-As it was made by someone else it might not have all the mods you want or instead have the features you dislike.

-Might not be updated frequently.

-An update mostly requires a new playthrough.

-There aren't many reliable modpacks, as of right now there is only one safe to use (EFP) and one in development (GAMMA).

What to do if you've made your decision

If you chose to make your own modlist all you have to do is follow this guide. In case you need any further help ask for it in the official Anomaly discord server.

In case you chose to use a modpack click the names of one of these modpacks for a discord invite:

(Note that these are the only stable and up kept modpacks available right now and you should avoid any other ones)

Escape from Pripyat - features mods which add semi-realistic gameplay elements in a manner similar to tough first-person shooters such as Escape from Tarkov.

G.A.M.M.A. (Grok's Automated Modular Modpack for Anomaly) - features an installation process that directly downloads and installs 200+ add-ons from moddb into a modular Mod Organizer 2 instance and provides a STALKER experience focused on crafting, repairing, survival, long progress, balance and smooth gameflow.

What not to do

Avoid using any random modsoup you find as most are just mods scrambled together in one big file by people who don't know what they are doing, look at the ratings and comments, you can also ask about it in Anomaly discord to see if it's safe to use.

If you've found out about Anomaly through youtube you must have heard of Provak's weapon overhaul - a goldmine for literally any issue known to modding and the true definition of quantity over quality.

Here is a list of reasons why you should avoid it:

-Aside from many bugs and often crashing, it is very unbalanced.

-One of its bigger problems is optimization and having many PiP scopes (picture in picture, scoping in halves your FPS).

-Another problem is the constant reuse of assets and item clutter, scrambling many weapon mods together equals to a lot of weapons looking the same and having same stats.

Also asking for money by having a patreon saying he makes mods while just reuploading the work of others and then removing it when being asked about it lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hope this guide helped you, now donate to my patreon here ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).
